Ron Glass 1945 – 2016
Greetings Space Cadets, another sad day today as we receive news of the passing of Ron Glass, the beloved actor who played Shepherd Derrial Book in Joss Whedon’s Firefly and Serenity. Ron Glass was aged 71. I had hoped to meet him at a Comic-Con one day, in addition to Firefly he was known for his role in Barney Miller and more recently Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. One of this Serenity quotes that I have always remember and may be appropriate now is Shepherd Book’s own Prayer for the Dead and is the prayer that I have ever remembered, and I will share it for you here.
Lord, I’m walking your way.
Let me in for my feet are sore,
my clothes are ragged.
Look in my eyes, Lord, and my sins
will play out on them as on a screen.
Read them all.
Forgive what you can
And send me on my path.
I will walk on until you bid me rest.
– Shepherd Derria Book,
Lord, I’m walking your way.
Let me in for my feet are sore,

Look in my eyes, Lord, and my sins
will play out on them as on a screen.
Read them all.
Forgive what you can
And send me on my path.
I will walk on until you bid me rest.
– Shepherd Derria Book,

When I talk about belief, why do you always assume I’m talking about God?

I don’t care what you believe in, just believe in it.

River: You see, the snow on the roof is too heavy, you see, the ceiling will cave in. His brains are in terrible danger.
Book: River, please, why don’t you come on out?
River: No! Can’t. Too much hair.

If you take sexual advantage of her, you’re going to burn in a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theatre.

“Tahiti. It’s a Magical Place”

Zoë: Preacher, don’t the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killin’?
Book: Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

Zoë: River, honey, he’s putting the hair away now.
River: Doesn’t matter. It’ll still be there… waiting.

I brought you some supper. But, if you’d *prefer* a lecture, I’ve a few very catchy ones prepped. Sin and hellfire. One has lepers.

I don’t care what you believe in, just believe in it.

Kaylee: How come you don’t care where you’re going?
Book: ‘Cause how you get there is the worthier part.
