Fallout 4 | Ep. 57 – The Fog Has Things in It. Of Course It Does.
🌫️ Something Is Moving in the Fog
Our Far Harbor adventure continues, and apparently the radioactive fog wasn’t concerning enough on its own. Something’s moving out there. Obviously we’re going to investigate.
Tonight’s journey takes us from the strange digital depths of DiMA’s memories back into the radioactive wilderness, where ammunition is disappearing, power armour is falling apart, and every dark shape in the fog looks increasingly like something that wants to eat us.
☢️ About Fallout 4
In Fallout 4, we emerge as the Sole Survivor of Vault 111 into a Commonwealth devastated by nuclear war. Survival is only part of the problem: factions compete for control, settlements need rebuilding, and almost every decision has consequences somewhere down the road.
The Far Harbor DLC takes that already dangerous world and buries it beneath radioactive fog, adding new factions, mysteries and creatures to an island where even seeing the danger coming can be difficult.
🧠 Where We Are in the Journey
Episode 57 picks up exactly where last Saturday’s stream ended: inside DiMA’s memory simulation, staring at the final puzzle we had been far too exhausted to finish.
We’re deep into Far Harbor now, uncovering DiMA’s secrets while gathering more work from the Children of Atom. Before we can deal with what those recovered memories mean, though, there is still plenty of island left to explore.
⚠️ What Happens in This Episode
We started the night exactly where we had abandoned things on the previous stream: trapped inside DiMA’s memory simulation, staring at that final enormous puzzle and wondering whether leaving it for a week had somehow made it less complicated.
It had not.
These memory sequences still look like somebody threw The Matrix, Minecraft and Legion’s loyalty mission from Mass Effect into a blender. There were blocks everywhere, laser beams that needed redirecting, pathways to construct and those little digital bugs patiently waiting for us to figure out what on earth we were doing.
The previous week, exhaustion had won. This time, after a considerable amount of jiggling things around, moving blocks, removing blocks and occasionally undoing our own progress, the laser finally pointed where it was supposed to. We cleared out the red blocks, opened the route and recovered the final memory.
At last, we were free.
From there, we emerged back into the considerably more welcoming surroundings of the Nucleus — which is quite a statement considering it is a radioactive submarine full of Children of Atom.

Since we were already there, we decided to speak to everyone and collect some additional side quests. That turned into a proper tour of the place, running backwards and forwards between different characters, opening lockers, disappearing down into the bowels of the submarine and repeatedly retracing our steps as objectives sent us from one end of the Nucleus to the other.
A surprising amount could actually be dealt with without leaving. We became involved with Brother Devin, whose religious devotion had reached the point where he was refusing to eat until a divine messenger released him from his fast. Naturally, the obvious solution was to tell him that we were the divine messenger.
He believed us.
Problem solved.
We also investigated Sister Aubert for High Confessor Tectus and ultimately reported that she was loyal, picking up another reward while adding even more objectives to our rapidly growing Far Harbor workload.
Eventually, though, there was a more familiar enemy to deal with: inventory management.
We were, once again, completely overloaded. The power armour needed attention as well, so before heading deeper into Far Harbor we made an emergency trip back to Sanctuary, dumped the mountain of incredibly important junk that we absolutely could not possibly leave behind, repaired the armour and prepared ourselves for another journey into the fog.
Back on the island, we fast travelled towards an area discovered during the previous stream and headed for the wind turbine codes on the little island near the edge.
Some enormous local wildlife decided to object.
Fortunately for us, we still had explosive ammunition at this point. The creatures discovered fairly quickly that charging directly towards somebody firing exploding bullets is not an especially successful survival strategy, and we recovered the codes without too much difficulty.
Looking at the map afterwards, there was no reason to immediately return and hand anything in. We could keep pushing south, clearing more objectives while we were already out there.
So naturally, deeper into the fog we went.
Our route took us towards the Glowing Grove, where we recovered the banner pieces needed for another side quest. We continued south again and eventually reached the ruined church, where we found Gwyneth busily vandalising the place.
The Children of Atom wanted her dealt with rather permanently.
Instead, we talked.
Rather than killing her, we managed to convince Gwyneth to leave the island and take her beliefs elsewhere. That gave us another completed objective ready to turn in later, because by this point the plan was to finish as much of the outside work as possible before making the grand tour of everyone who wanted to give us rewards.
Then we arrived at the Vim! Pop factory.
We had encountered this place before. A couple of weeks earlier, I believe we had passed through the area, disturbed the super mutants slightly and decided that running away was a perfectly legitimate tactical response.
Not tonight.
This time we were going inside.
The factory turned into a prolonged battle as we fought through the super mutants, worked our way upwards onto the roof, found another route back inside and continued pushing deeper into the building.
Unfortunately, the further we went, the worse our equipment situation became.
The power armour was taking an absolute beating. Pieces were damaged, some were effectively gone, and our supply of explosive ammunition was disappearing at an alarming rate.
Eventually we reached the point where continuing to feed precious explosive rounds into every super mutant simply wasn’t sustainable.
So the machine gun went away.
Big Jim came out.
If ammunition was going to become a luxury item, then apparently the solution was to start clobbering our way through the remaining opposition instead.
Somehow, it worked.
We eventually reached an elevator and descended into the lower section of the factory, where we dug around and recovered the discs and other items needed for DiMA’s mission. There was more to investigate down there as well, including a disturbing recording connected to a synth preparing to replace a human identity.
And then we saw it.
A chest.
Not just any chest, either. One of those wonderful end-of-area loot chests that immediately activates the part of the brain responsible for refusing to leave until everything valuable has been acquired.
There was only one problem.
It was on the other side of a window, and we had absolutely no idea how to get into the room.
We searched.
And searched.
We rummaged around the area looking for a terminal, switch, doorway or anything else that might explain how to open it. Nothing stood out. Eventually, after several minutes of achieving absolutely nothing, we admitted defeat.
We could always come back another time.
Into the elevator we went.
And that was when FlyingFox21 informed us there was a computer we needed to click.
I was confused.
“I didn’t see a computer screen down there.”
Apparently that was because I was looking for something that actually looked like a computer.
Back down the elevator.
It turned out the mysterious “computer” was basically a button. We pressed it, had a brief conversation with the system and finally opened the door into the room.
Success.
We went inside, opened the giant chest and collected our end-of-level goodies. After another look around, there didn’t appear to be anything else worth worrying about.
Excellent.
Back into the elevator.
Up we went.
Then Gary pointed out that there had been metal trays in the room.
Normally, metal trays would not inspire an immediate return journey into a subterranean factory full of dead super mutants. But metal trays contain aluminium, and aluminium is extremely useful when your power armour has spent the evening being dismantled around you.
So…
Back down the elevator.
We collected the trays.
Back into the elevator.
Up we went.
Surely, surely, we were finished now.
No.
FlyingFox21 appeared in chat again.
We had missed the legendary weapon.
“Well, where was the legendary weapon?”
Back down the elevator.
And there it was.
Right beside the chest.
In plain sight.
We had apparently managed to thoroughly inspect the room, loot the chest, return for the aluminium and still fail to notice the legendary weapon sitting there waiting for us.
Weapon acquired, I stood at the bottom of the elevator and asked chat whether there was anything else anybody would like to see in this room, just so we didn’t have to make the twenty-fifth trip back down again.
Once everyone had finished laughing at me, we finally escaped.
By this point, though, Far Harbor had taken its toll.
Our power armour was completely trashed and we were down to roughly forty rounds of explosive ammunition. Those remaining rounds were being saved for the possibility that something particularly enormous might emerge from the fog and require immediate explosive persuasion.
Continuing the expedition in that condition didn’t seem especially wise.
We headed back to the Commonwealth and returned once again to Sanctuary, where the battered power armour could finally be repaired back to 100%.
The ammunition problem remains.
Before we head properly back into Far Harbor next stream, we are going to need a shopping trip to Diamond City and as much ammunition for that explosive machine gun as we can possibly get our hands on. Forty rounds isn’t going to last long on an island where practically everything seems determined to attack us.
There was, however, one final matter to check before ending the evening.
The Brahmin.
Carla’s Brahmin is still on the roof at Sanctuary.
We still don’t know how it got there.
At this point, I don’t think we want to know how it got there.
It has simply become part of the settlement and will henceforth be regarded as Sanctuary’s town mascot, permanently stationed above us and apparently operating according to a completely different interpretation of gravity.

With DiMA’s memory puzzle finally conquered, several more Far Harbor objectives completed, the Vim! factory thoroughly raided and our equipment dragged back from the brink of destruction, that was where we called the adventure for the night.
Before disappearing ourselves, we gathered up the Twitch crew and finished the stream with a raid into Rooville, sending everyone onwards together.
Next Saturday night, Fallout 4 continues.
The armour is repaired. The ammunition supply isn’t.
And somewhere beyond Sanctuary, the fog is still waiting.

The fog is considerably more entertaining when there is a crew in chat pointing out the computer I walked past, the legendary weapon I somehow missed and all the scrap worth making another elevator journey for.
Come aboard live on Twitch or YouTube and join us for the next expedition. Saturday night we return to Fallout 4, and apparently Diamond City’s ammunition merchants are about to have a very profitable evening.

🌒 Until Next Time
DiMA’s memory is recovered, the Vim! factory has been thoroughly looted, the armour is repaired, and Carla’s Brahmin remains inexplicably stationed on a roof.
Next Saturday, we head back into the wasteland with more ammunition and, hopefully, fewer elevator journeys.
Until then, stay safe out there. The fog has things in it.
Of course it does.
