Outbound | Ep. 2 – Powered by Tea and Solar Panels

Back on the road once again, the world of Outbound opened up with another evening of cosy exploration, questionable engineering decisions, and a camper van that slowly began evolving into something far more ambitious than anyone originally intended.

What started as a peaceful journey through colourful landscapes quickly became a battle for resources, power, and common sense. Armed with tea, determination, and an ever-growing need for wood, we set out to push deeper into the world and see just how much we could transform our little mobile home.

🚐 About the Game

Outbound is a cosy survival and exploration game built around the idea of living sustainably on the move. Players travel through a vibrant open world in a customizable camper van, gathering resources, unlocking new technologies, and building a self-sufficient life powered by renewable energy.

Whether you’re installing solar panels, harvesting resources, expanding your vehicle, or simply enjoying the scenery, Outbound blends relaxation and creativity into a uniquely satisfying road-trip adventure.

🗺️ Where We Are in the Journey

This episode continues our early adventures in Outbound as we push further into the map and begin turning our humble camper into a proper mobile base.

After spending the first episode learning the basics and getting established, it’s now time to expand. New roads, new discoveries, fresh blueprints, and increasingly ambitious construction projects all start taking shape as we work toward creating a home that can survive whatever the journey throws at us.

🌲 What Happens in This Episode

The evening began with a simple goal: continue exploring and gather the resources needed to improve our camper van. Naturally, things became far more complicated than that.

Setting off along newly unlocked roads and bridges, we ventured deeper into the map searching for new locations, useful upgrades, and anything that could help us expand our rolling home. Signal towers were discovered, new blueprints were unlocked, and every corner of the landscape seemed to offer another opportunity for progress.

Very quickly, however, one resource became the star of the evening: wood.

Every fallen branch, abandoned log, and spare piece of timber suddenly became incredibly valuable. The further we travelled, the more apparent it became that our construction ambitions were rapidly outpacing our available supplies. Resource gathering soon became a constant companion throughout the journey.

Adding to the challenge was the camper’s ongoing battle with power management. At what always felt like the worst possible moment, the vehicle would find itself running low on charge. More than once, promising expeditions were interrupted by emergency scavenging runs just to keep the van moving. Combined with stubborn hills that seemed determined to stop our progress entirely, the road itself became one of the night’s biggest obstacles.

Despite those setbacks, progress continued.

New technologies unlocked and ideas began forming about how the camper could evolve. Then came the biggest milestone of the stream: access to the base-building deck.

What started as a sensible attempt to improve the vehicle quickly transformed into a glorious experiment in engineering excess. Floors appeared. Then more floors. Platforms followed. Stairs were added. Before long, the camper van was growing vertically in ways that probably weren’t part of the original design brief.

The higher the structure climbed, the more ridiculous and entertaining it became. Questions about structural integrity, weight limits, and whether any of this was remotely practical quickly gave way to a simple challenge: how high can we actually build?

The answer, as it turns out, was “until we run out of wood.”

Eventually our towering mobile construction project consumed every available resource, bringing the expansion plans to a temporary halt. The dream of an endlessly growing camper would have to wait for another day.

Unfortunately, the evening was quieter than usual on the community side, and with chat largely absent the session wrapped up earlier than planned. Even so, significant progress was made. New areas were explored, fresh blueprints were secured, major construction systems were unlocked, and the foundations for future upgrades are now firmly in place.

Most importantly, we learned that given enough building materials, no camper van is safe from becoming a multi-storey architectural experiment.

🌄 Until Next Time

The solar panels are charging, the tea is brewing, and somewhere out there is enough wood to continue this increasingly ridiculous camper expansion project.

Until the next journey, safe travels—and remember: just because the game lets you build higher doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
