Sniper Elite III | Ep. 3 – Halfaya Pass

🎯 One Shot Can Change Everything

The deserts of North Africa continue to test both patience and precision as our Sniper Elite III campaign pushes deeper into enemy territory. Halfaya Pass once again proved that even the best-laid plans can unravel in spectacular fashion when a single mistake turns a stealth operation into a desperate fight for survival.

What began as a calculated mission to eliminate anti-aircraft positions quickly evolved into one of those streams that perfectly captures why Sniper Elite is so entertaining. Between incredible long-range shots, frustrating deaths, chaotic firefights, and a community fully committed to the ongoing pursuit of the perfect plum shot, this episode delivered plenty of memorable moments.

🏜️ About the Game

Sniper Elite III is a tactical third-person shooter set across the harsh and unforgiving landscapes of World War II North Africa. Combining stealth, player choice, expansive levels, and the series’ famous ballistic system, every engagement becomes a puzzle of positioning, timing, and precision.

Whether you’re silently clearing enemy patrols from hundreds of metres away or improvising your way through a firefight after everything goes wrong, Sniper Elite constantly rewards creativity and careful planning. Of course, it also delivers some of gaming’s most memorable x-ray kill cams along the way.

🧭 Where We Are in the Journey

This episode takes us back into Halfaya Pass as we continue working through the campaign and methodically dismantling enemy defences. Our primary objective remains the destruction of the anti-aircraft guns scattered throughout the area, but getting there is rarely straightforward.

With enemy patrols becoming increasingly dangerous and resources becoming more limited, every advance through the desert feels hard-earned. This chapter sits firmly in the middle of our North African campaign, where mistakes are punished quickly and victory often comes at the cost of multiple reloads.

🔥 What Happens in This Episode

Returning to the dusty battlefields of Halfaya Pass, the evening began with cautious scouting and steady progress as we once again set our sights on eliminating the anti-aircraft guns threatening the region. Early on, things seemed surprisingly under control. Enemy positions were identified, stealth takedowns landed cleanly, and it looked as though the operation might be one of our smoother runs.

Naturally, that didn’t last.

As the mission unfolded, enemy patrols began appearing from unexpected directions, forcing frantic repositioning and more than a few tactical retreats. Ammunition became increasingly precious, health supplies were never where they were needed most, and the dreaded Deathloop soon made its return. Not once or twice either—Halfaya Pass dragged us through eight separate Deathloops before finally allowing us to move forward.

Despite the setbacks, there were still victories to celebrate. The ongoing Plum Hunters campaign delivered three successful plum shots during the stream, each one greeted with the appropriate level of celebration from chat. We were also robbed of what should have been another glorious addition to the tally when a perfectly lined-up shot somehow threaded its way between an unfortunate enemy’s plumbs, travelled through his entire body, and exited through his head. If there were awards for near misses, that one would be taking gold.

What we lacked in plum shots, however, we more than made up for in kidney shots. Enemy after enemy seemed determined to present exactly the same target area, turning the evening into an accidental showcase of precision renal surgery. Had kidney shots counted towards the scoreboard, we’d likely have broken every record.

As the fighting intensified around artillery positions and defensive towers, environmental hazards became our best friends. Explosive barrels, fuel tanks, and carefully placed shots triggered satisfying chain reactions that cleared enemy positions while conserving increasingly scarce ammunition. Several advances were followed by unfortunate reloads, but persistence eventually won the day as the anti-aircraft defences steadily fell.

Throughout it all, chat was in outstanding form. Frodo continued to shoulder blame for virtually every setback, whether deserved or not, while Happy_Cat_Lady, Papasoup60, GaryDSteel, Lucadius and others kept the jokes flowing. Gary’s apparent talent for attracting kidney injuries became a running theme, while Lucadius provided translations of German enemy dialogue and confirmed the subtitles were remarkably accurate. The familiar cry of “Everybody’s dead, Dave” became the unofficial mission status report whenever another section of the map was finally cleared.

After finally emerging victorious from Halfaya Pass, we switched over to Marbles On Stream for a few races. Somehow the scoring system managed to confuse everyone yet again. Mr V won two out of the three races but still failed to appear on the leaderboard, leaving the final victory in the hands of Frodo. To say we were baffled would be an understatement.

The evening concluded with a raid over to Ashens, bringing another entertaining night of desert warfare, community chaos, and questionable anatomy-based scoring systems to a close.
