Fallout 4 | Ep. 52 – I Promise Sanctuary Will Look Better Tomorrow

The Commonwealth has a way of reminding you that no plan survives first contact with reality.

After surviving the chaos, carnivals and corporate madness of Nuka-World, this week was supposed to be simple. No murderous theme park mascots. No gang politics. No grand adventures into radioactive fog banks.

Just a quiet evening back home in Sanctuary.

What could possibly go wrong?

Sanctuary deserved better than the collection of quest-required furniture and abandoned construction projects we’d left scattered around the place for fifty-one episodes. The goal was straightforward: tidy up the settlement, build something impressive, improve our gear and, naturally, blow something up before the night was over.

Somehow, even that turned into complete chaos.

🏚️ About the Game

Fallout 4 throws you into the ruins of post-war America as the Sole Survivor of Vault 111.

The Commonwealth is brutal, unpredictable and strangely beautiful in equal measure. Every ruined town hides stories, every settlement offers a chance to rebuild, and every decision shapes the future of the wasteland.

Whether you’re hunting raiders, exploring forgotten vaults or trying to convince a Brahmin that rooftops aren’t suitable parking spaces, there’s always another story waiting around the corner.

🔧 Where We Are in the Journey

Last week saw the end of our adventure through Nuka-World and all the chaos that DLC had to offer.

Before heading north into the mysteries and horrors of Far Harbor next week, this stream acted as a breather episode between major adventures. A chance to regroup, improve our equipment, spend some long-forgotten perk points and finally give Sanctuary the attention it has been demanding for most of the playthrough.

At least that was the idea.

🏗️ What Happens in This Episode

The evening began back in Sanctuary with a discovery that immediately raised more questions than answers.

Trashcan Carla’s Brahmin had somehow managed to climb onto the roof of one of the houses and appeared completely content with its new elevated lifestyle. Repeated warnings that this was “not a load-bearing structure” did absolutely nothing to convince the animal otherwise, and by the end of the stream it was still there, proudly occupying some of the most expensive real estate in the Commonwealth.

With rooftop livestock accepted as the new normal, work began on clearing away some of the relics of earlier adventures. Old structures built purely to gain access to the Institute were dismantled, resources were reclaimed and plans for Sanctuary’s glorious future started to take shape.

Then I spotted the Vault pieces.

The dream was born almost instantly: an above-ground Vault complex right in the middle of Sanctuary. What could be cooler than bringing Vault-Tec architecture back to the surface?

Unfortunately, Fallout 4’s settlement system had other plans.

Floors refused to snap together. Walls clipped through reality itself. Entire sections refused to acknowledge the existence of neighbouring pieces. Before long, the battle wasn’t against raiders or super mutants but against the ancient and powerful enemy known only as “Bloody Bethesda.”

Multiple supply runs to Diamond City followed as steel, rubber and other materials vanished into the construction effort at an alarming pace. Despite every attempt to force the project into existence, the Vault dream eventually had to be abandoned as frustration finally defeated ambition.

Sometimes the wasteland wins.

With building temporarily surrendered, attention turned towards something Fallout 4 understands much better: weapons.

After discovering an embarrassingly large collection of unspent perk points, we were finally able to unlock some new skills and improve our beloved exploding ammunition weapon. The goal was simple.

Make the explody gun more explody.

Naturally, that meant field testing.

A call for help first sent us towards Abernathy Farm where things became slightly complicated after explosive rounds started landing a little too close to the people we were supposed to be protecting. The farmers became understandably upset, Piper decided this behaviour was beneath her standards, and somehow I managed to lose both the battle and my companion at the same time.

After a tactical reload of reality itself, we tried again.

This time The Castle came under attack from Super Mutants and the upgraded weapon finally got the demonstration it deserved. The resulting battle was brief, violent and extremely messy as explosive rounds transformed advancing mutants into little more than drifting red mist across the walls of the old Minutemen stronghold.

Scientific testing was therefore considered a complete success.

A final wander through the city provided a few more unfortunate enemies to test against before we returned home to Sanctuary, repaired the power armour and prepared ourselves for the journey to Far Harbor waiting just over the horizon.

The settlement may still resemble an active construction site.

The Vault dream may be temporarily dead.

But somewhere above it all, Trashcan Carla’s Brahmin still watches from its rooftop throne.

🌅 Until Next Time

Sanctuary still isn’t finished.

The walls still don’t line up.

The Brahmin is still on the roof.

But the power armour is repaired, the weapons are loaded, and somewhere beyond the coast the fog of Far Harbor waits patiently for us.

Until next time, stay safe out there, wanderers.
