Red Dead Redemption II | Ep. 15 – The Frontier Makes Hard Men and Harder Graves
Back to the frontier where every choice matters and every mile travelled leaves its mark.
Five weeks away from the saddle is a long time in the Wild West. Returning to Red Dead Redemption II felt like stepping back into a world that had patiently waited for Arthur Morgan, even if neither the game nor I seemed entirely sure where we’d left him. What followed was an evening filled with exploration, unexpected detours, unsettling discoveries, and the kind of chaos that only Rockstar’s frontier can deliver.
This episode perfectly captures why no journey through the American wilderness ever goes according to plan. Every destination opened the door to another distraction, every friendly face carried a little suspicion, and chat somehow managed to guide us straight into one of the strangest encounters in the entire game.
🌄 About the Game
Red Dead Redemption II follows Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde Gang as they struggle to survive while the modern world slowly closes in around them. With lawmen, bounty hunters, and rival gangs constantly threatening their way of life, every decision carries consequences across one of the most beautifully detailed open worlds ever created.
Whether you’re hunting wildlife, helping strangers, uncovering forgotten mysteries, or simply riding across breathtaking landscapes, every journey feels like its own story—and that’s exactly what keeps pulling us back.
🧠Where We Are in the Journey
Episode 15 marks our long-awaited return after a five-week break from Friday night streams. Story-wise we’re now sitting at roughly one-third of the overall adventure, balancing main story missions with exploration, collectibles, and the countless distractions that make the frontier feel alive.
It was the perfect session to get reacquainted with Arthur Morgan while easing back into the world before pushing further into the gang’s unfolding story.
🔥 What Happens in This Episode
The evening began in perhaps the least helpful location imaginable—under a railway bridge on a narrow cliff in the far north of the map. It quickly became obvious why we’d saved the game there weeks ago. We’d spotted mysterious artwork carved into the cliff face during our last exploration and intended to investigate it later, only for the game to load us miles away from the actual location. After climbing out of the awkward spot we’d spawned into and retracing our steps through the wilderness, we finally found the rock carving and added another fascinating discovery to Arthur’s growing collection.
With that mystery solved, we headed south toward Albert Mason’s next photography mission. Of course, the road had other ideas. A stranded traveller turned out to be an obvious ambush, but the attackers underestimated Arthur Morgan and were quickly dealt with before we continued our ride.
Unfortunately, Albert had already packed up for the evening, so we made camp and returned the following morning to begin Arcadia for Amateurs – Part III. Compared to some of the dangers we’d already faced, helping herd wild horses into position for Albert’s photographs made for a wonderfully relaxed change of pace and produced one of the stream’s lighter moments.
Just when it looked like we’d be making a straightforward trip back to camp, chat had other plans.
Thanks to repeated encouragement from spiffymango1274, we diverted toward Aberdeen Pig Farm. From the moment Arthur stepped through the front door, something felt horribly wrong. Between the unsettling atmosphere, the bizarre brother-and-sister relationship, and one particularly creepy painting that immediately caught my attention, every instinct was screaming that this wasn’t a normal family dinner. Against all common sense, Arthur accepted the invitation to eat… only to wake up robbed and dumped out in the bushes.
Naturally, revenge wasn’t far behind.
We returned to the farmhouse, settled the score with the deeply disturbing siblings, searched every corner of the house, and recovered the money they’d stolen. It became one of those unforgettable Red Dead moments where curiosity is richly rewarded—just not in the way anyone expected.
Eventually we returned to camp to continue the main story alongside Sean MacGuire, who remains my least favourite member of the Van der Linde Gang by a comfortable margin. Social Call with Mr. MacGuire played out successfully, the loot was secured, and we wrapped up the evening with a little inventory management. Thanks to chat’s advice, we finally sorted out Arthur’s rifle loadout, keeping everything except the Lancaster to make future missions much less confusing.
The stream itself brought plenty of laughs beyond the game. Chat helped navigate back to the cliff carving without spoiling the adventure, blamed every technical issue on poor Frodo, continued the legend of Arthur’s faithful horse “Tesco’s Lasagna,” and somehow invented the idea of a horse GPS measured by how often it left presents along the trail. Even recurring Windows stuttering couldn’t derail the atmosphere, although discovering that a rogue Windows process was hammering my RTX 5090 eventually convinced us that a reboot was the best way to end the night.
To finish things off, we raided across to BearMithrandir, sending the community onward after another memorable Friday night adventure.
