Fallout 4 | Ep. 53 – Taking a Nice Relaxing Trip to Far Harbor

The fog has a way of making everything feel uncertain. Every silhouette could be a friend, a monster, or something far stranger lurking just beyond sight. With the Commonwealth behind us and the sea stretching out ahead, it was finally time to answer Far Harbor’s call and begin one of Fallout 4’s most memorable adventures.

What started as a seemingly relaxing trip to a remote island quickly reminded us why Far Harbor has earned its reputation. Ancient mysteries, dangerous creatures, unforgettable characters, and one delightfully bizarre murder mystery all combined to make this an incredible start to the DLC. If you’ve never ventured into the fog before—or you’re ready to revisit it—this episode is packed with memorable moments.

🌫️ About the Game

As the sole survivor of Vault 111, you emerge into a world devastated by nuclear war where every decision shapes your journey. Fallout 4 blends exploration, survival, storytelling, and role-playing into an enormous open world filled with memorable companions, dangerous factions, and countless secrets waiting to be uncovered.

Far Harbor expands that experience by taking players away from the familiar Commonwealth and onto a mysterious island swallowed by an ever-present radioactive fog. It’s a place where every path hides new dangers, old memories, and difficult choices that blur the line between right and wrong.

🧭 Where We Are in the Journey

Episode 53 marks the beginning of our Far Harbor adventure. Before setting sail, we made one important change by leaving Piper safely back in Diamond City and recruiting Nick Valentine instead. Anyone familiar with this expansion knows Nick brings far more than firepower—his personal connection to Far Harbor adds some of the DLC’s most fascinating story moments.

This episode lays the foundations for everything still to come, introducing the island, its key factions, its central mysteries, and several side adventures that promise plenty more exploration in future streams.

🌁 What Happens in This Episode

The evening began with some preparation before finally setting sail for the island. Inventory was sorted, supplies checked, and after a few laughs about disappearing caps and Fallout 4’s settlement building quirks, it was time to swap companions and bring Nick Valentine along for the journey. It didn’t take long to remember exactly why that decision was worthwhile.

Stepping onto Far Harbor immediately threw us into the action as the town came under attack from the terrifying creatures lurking within the fog. Armed with explosive ammunition, the fight quickly became a balancing act between eliminating monsters and making sure the locals didn’t accidentally wander into the blast radius. Once the settlement was secured, we met Captain Avery, learned more about the growing tensions surrounding the Children of Atom, and naturally accepted every side quest we could get our hands on before pressing deeper into the island.

Old Longfellow then guided us through the dangerous wilderness toward Acadia, with plenty of hostile wildlife, trappers, and nostalgic memories along the way. Returning to Far Harbor after remembering completing the DLC back in 2016 brought back plenty of stories, while reaching Acadia introduced one of the expansion’s biggest narrative moments. Meeting DiMA alongside Nick Valentine opened up fascinating conversations surrounding synth identity, memory, and the mysteries surrounding Kasumi Nakano. We also picked up several additional quests, including DiMA’s memory recovery mission, which couldn’t help but bring to mind Lt. Commander Data’s missing memory engrams from Star Trek: Insurrection.

Rather than heading straight back, a quick glance at the map revealed a missed side quest waiting in Far Harbor. The route conveniently passed National Park Campground, making it the perfect opportunity to clear out a nest of ghouls before collecting even more work from the locals. Of course, plans rarely survive contact with the wasteland.

Passing Cliff’s Edge Hotel triggered memories from years ago, and curiosity got the better of us. Remembering there was something hidden beneath the ruined hotel—and vaguely recalling a collection of robots—we decided to investigate. That detour led us into Vault 118 and the wonderfully strange Brain Dead murder mystery.

The investigation proved to be one of Fallout 4’s most entertaining side stories. Interviewing eccentric Robobrain residents, searching the Overseer’s office, and carefully piecing together the evidence eventually exposed the truth. Ezra had been impersonating Juliana after murdering the real victim to conceal years of embezzlement. Although one dialogue choice left me wondering if I’d selected quite the right option, the mystery was still solved and justice was ultimately delivered after bringing Ezra’s deception to an explosive end.

By the time the investigation concluded, the path finally led us back toward Far Harbor. With multiple new quests waiting, DiMA’s memories still to recover, and much of the island left unexplored, this felt like only the opening chapter of what promises to be an unforgettable adventure.

The community helped make the evening even better. FlyingFox21 surprised us with a fantastic raid after carefully avoiding spoilers for the DLC, while chat kept the laughs flowing with discussions about Fallout lore, companion choices, Twitch mini-games, football, ninja kittens, tea breaks, and the ever-unpredictable A.I.D.A. To round off the night, we passed the adventure along by raiding into KingIronBlood, ready to continue exploring the fog next week.
