Red Dead Redemption II | Ep. 16 – A Cold Campfire and a Warm Revolver
The frontier never stays quiet for long. Just when it feels like Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang might finally catch their breath, fate has a habit of steering them towards another impossible situation. Episode 16 delivers exactly that balance of calm before the storm, mixing uneasy humour, breathtaking rides across the wilderness, and one of the most intense story moments we’ve seen in the journey so far.
What began as a stream where we were simply grateful to be starting right beside camp quickly spiralled into grave robbing, legendary predators, accidental disasters, hidden treasure, and a desperate fight for survival. As always, chat was right there for every laugh, every bad decision, and every moment where things went spectacularly off the rails.

Red Dead Redemption II follows Arthur Morgan, an outlaw trying to survive alongside the Van der Linde Gang as civilisation slowly closes in around them. Set across a beautifully realised American frontier, every journey feels alive, with strangers needing help, dangerous wildlife lurking in the forests, and stories waiting around almost every corner.
It’s a world where quiet moments can suddenly become deadly, where your choices shape encounters, and where even the longest ride across the map can lead to unforgettable adventures.
🧭 Where We Are in the Journey
By Episode 16, Arthur has become deeply entangled in the gang’s increasingly dangerous affairs. The pressure from rival gangs and the law continues to build, while Dutch’s leadership is beginning to show worrying cracks.
This chapter moves several important story threads forward, blending major campaign missions with memorable encounters across the frontier. What starts as another routine day for the gang slowly reveals that the road ahead may be far more dangerous than anyone expected.
⚠️ What Happens in This Episode
This week’s adventure gets off to an unusually convenient start, with Arthur already camped close enough to jump straight into the action instead of spending half the evening riding across the map. That small blessing doesn’t last long.
Our first stop is Money Lending and Other Sins IV, where Leopold Strauss once again proves that collecting debts can be far stranger than simply knocking on someone’s door. Instead, we’re helping an extremely suspicious fellow dig through a graveyard while Arthur clears curious onlookers out of the way—sometimes with persuasion, and sometimes with a well-placed punch. It’s one of those wonderfully awkward Red Dead moments where the mission is morally questionable, completely absurd, and somehow hilarious all at once.
With the cemetery behind us, the open frontier calls once again. On the long journey towards Strawberry, we come across a stranded woman whose exhausted horse has decided the middle of the road is the perfect place for an extended nap. Her destination lies in completely the opposite direction, but with scenery this beautiful there was never any real question—we saddle up and enjoy another peaceful ride through Rockstar’s incredible world.
That calm doesn’t last for long. A trip to Winton Holmes soon has Arthur tracking down the legendary White Cougar, forcing us into a tense hunt where relearning Dead Eye mechanics becomes rather important rather quickly. The predator doesn’t exactly wait politely either, launching an ambush that creates one of the evening’s biggest gameplay moments before Arthur finally manages to claim the prized pelt. Naturally, the trophy is promptly strapped to our faithful horse—Tesco’s Lasagna—before we casually stroll into Strawberry hoping nobody pays too much attention.
The ride home proves just as eventful. Along the trail we stumble across a man happily panning for gold, but what should have been a simple conversation escalates rather dramatically. In the interests of full transparency… we were trying to de-escalate the situation. Unfortunately, a revolver may have discharged unexpectedly, and the poor prospector may have ended up significantly shorter than he started. Oops.
Not far beyond that unfortunate encounter, curiosity gets the better of us once again as we meet a stranger offering a mysterious treasure map during All That Glitters. Ten dollars later, Arthur is riding away with promises of hidden riches somewhere across the frontier and yet another adventure waiting for a future stream.
The evening isn’t without problems outside the game either. Persistent graphical glitches and unexpected frame rate issues force an unscheduled technical break, but what could have been frustrating quickly becomes another entertaining part of the stream as chat joins in troubleshooting. After tweaking settings, capping the frame rate, sharing a few laughs, and getting everything running smoothly again, we’re soon back in the saddle.
Eventually, Arthur returns to camp ready for Blessed Are the Peacemakers, and from the moment Dutch agrees to meet the O’Driscolls, everyone watching can sense disaster approaching. Chat certainly did.
They were absolutely right.
The meeting turns into a trap, Arthur is captured, beaten, and left fighting through pain and delirium to survive. Rather than charging straight through enemy patrols, a careful escape over the hills provides a narrow route to freedom before exhaustion finally takes its toll. Thankfully, Tesco’s Lasagna proves once again to be the real hero of the frontier, faithfully carrying Arthur back to camp where the battered outlaw is finally reunited with the gang after one of the most gripping story sequences of the playthrough so far.
Between all of that, the community kept the atmosphere wonderfully chaotic. Running jokes like #BlameGary, another appearance from the legendary “You’re a Cheese” jukebox song, Hunger Games simulations, channel heists, horse discussions, treasure speculation, and endless debate over whether Dutch actually has a plan ensured there was never a dull moment—even during the darker chapters of Arthur’s journey.
As the stream came to a close, we sent the community over to Kingyork1985 with a raid, wrapping up another unforgettable evening on the frontier.
