Fallout 4 | Ep. 55 – The Brochure Forgot to Mention the Monsters
Far Harbor has a way of luring you into a false sense of security. The fog drifts across rugged coastlines, abandoned docks hint at forgotten stories, and every winding road promises another hidden discovery. It almost feels peaceful… right up until something with far too many teeth comes charging out of the mist.
This episode became the perfect reminder that no matter how carefully you plan an expedition across the island, Far Harbor always has other ideas. What started as a relaxed evening focused on side quests quickly turned into a series of unexpected battles, wrong turns, desperate retreats, and one unforgettable showdown that proved the island’s monsters definitely weren’t mentioned in the travel brochure.
🌫️ About the Game
Fallout 4 places you in the role of the Sole Survivor of Vault 111, emerging into a world left shattered by nuclear war. Every decision shapes your journey through the Commonwealth, from the settlements you build to the factions you support and the dangers you choose to confront.
The Far Harbor expansion pushes that survival even further, transporting players to a mysterious island where radioactive fog hides terrifying creatures, uneasy alliances, and long-buried secrets. Every expedition into the mist feels unpredictable, making exploration just as rewarding as it is dangerous.
🧭 Where We Are in the Journey
With the main Far Harbor storyline already underway, this stream takes a welcome breather from the major plot. Rather than forcing our way through the next chapter, tonight is all about tying up loose ends, tackling side quests, exploring parts of the island we’ve yet to properly investigate, and seeing where curiosity leads us.
As always in Fallout, the shortest route rarely stays the shortest for long.
⚔️ What Happens in This Episode
Rather than diving deeper into Far Harbor’s main storyline, tonight’s adventure takes a welcome detour. Sometimes the best sessions are the ones where there isn’t a grand plan—just a map full of unexplored locations, a handful of side quests, and the freedom to see where the wasteland decides to take us.
Before returning to the island, there was a little housekeeping back in Sanctuary. Weapons were repaired, supplies sorted, and our battered power armour received some much-needed attention after the previous expedition. Of course, Sanctuary wouldn’t be Sanctuary without at least one bizarre Fallout moment, and somehow Trashcan Carla’s Brahmin was still balancing on the rooftop as though it had become a permanent landmark. At this point, nobody questions it anymore—it simply feels like part of the settlement.

With equipment in order, we crossed back into the fog-covered wilderness of Far Harbor and set our sights south, intending to chip away at a few outstanding side quests while avoiding the heavier story beats for another night. It sounded like a simple enough plan.
Naturally, it didn’t stay simple for very long.
Our first stop took us back to the infamous cannibal house from last week’s stream. After discovering what its residents had done to an unfortunate synth, there was no intention of letting them continue their gruesome lifestyle. Justice came swiftly, and the house was left considerably quieter than we found it before we pressed deeper into the island.
From there, curiosity got the better of us.
One wrong turn pulled us away from our intended route and straight toward the MS Azalea, an abandoned vessel that was anything but empty. What followed was a full-scale cleanup operation as every hostile aboard was systematically dealt with. Victory, however, wasn’t quite the end of the encounter. Thanks to the sheer weight of our power armour, escaping the surrounding water became an unexpected challenge all of its own, leaving us awkwardly struggling to climb back out while chat enjoyed the spectacle.

Not long afterwards came another lesson in why you should never assume anything in Fallout.
Spotting what appeared to be a lone super mutant in the distance seemed like an easy opportunity for a quick shot. Seconds later it became painfully obvious that we’d actually found an entire settlement packed with super mutants instead. Sometimes bravery is overrated, and discretion really is the better part of valour. A tactical retreat—otherwise known as “Run Away!”—became the only sensible option.
Eventually we reached Southwest Harbor, where things finally went according to plan for a change. The two missing data recovery drives were recovered without too much trouble, although one stubborn locked chest refused to give up its contents. We had the important objective in hand, even if one mystery would have to wait for another day.
Somewhere along the journey another mystery was solved as well, with chat finally revealing that the legendary Mysterious Stranger was apparently none other than TictaqJim. Fallout may explain the end of civilisation, but it still leaves plenty of unanswered questions.
With the recovery mission complete, we weren’t quite ready to head back just yet.
Instead, there was unfinished business waiting at Brooke’s Head Lighthouse. Revenge had been on the cards for a while, and this visit made sure the score was finally settled. The lighthouse was thoroughly cleared, bringing a satisfying conclusion to a lingering side story before we returned to Acadia carrying both the recovered drives and a healthy collection of loot.
Back at Acadia, Faraday happily accepted the recovered data, while we made sure to negotiate every last cap we could squeeze out of the reward. In the wasteland, every cap counts, especially when power armour repairs never seem to get any cheaper.
Returning to Far Harbor itself brought one of the evening’s funniest moments.
Out of nowhere, a courier approached with what felt like a scene lifted straight out of Skyrim: “I’ve been looking for you. Got something I’m supposed to deliver—your hands only.” Rather than accepting our fate, we decided the obvious solution was to lead the poor messenger on an increasingly ridiculous chase around the tables, refusing to let him get close enough to finish his delivery. Eventually we relented, heard him out, and discovered he was pointing us toward The Captain’s Dance, beginning the Rite of Passage quest.
That journey led us to Emmet’s Causeway, where Far Harbor decided to test whether we’d truly earned the island’s respect.
Waiting for us was a monstrous Mirelurk Queen, one of the deadliest creatures roaming the island. The battle quickly escalated into an explosive slugfest as every heavy weapon we had was thrown into the fight. Grenades flew, explosive ammunition disappeared at an alarming rate, and the Queen simply refused to stay down. Eventually persistence won out, and the towering creature finally collapsed, leaving us victorious—but also with our explosive reserves almost completely depleted.
The triumph earned far more than experience points. Completing the Captain’s Dance proved our worth to the people of Far Harbor, unlocked fresh opportunities around the island, and felt like a major milestone despite deliberately leaving the main storyline untouched for the evening.
With our objectives complete, we made one last circuit through the island. Quests were handed in, rewards collected, and several new adventures accepted for future streams before we finally returned home to Sanctuary. Loot was unloaded, armour repairs began once more, and reality quickly set in when we discovered we simply didn’t have enough circuitry to restore every damaged piece of our power armour. That problem would have to wait until next week.
Throughout it all, chat kept the atmosphere every bit as entertaining as the gameplay itself. Quiet moments quickly drifted into conversations about everything from Farmer’s Dynasty and overheating Xbox consoles to AI rescuing corrupted save files, movie nights, game development, and the now-famous “optional pants.” Community events brought plenty of laughs too, with Samwise celebrating a subscription, winning both the Pokémon hunt and the Hunger Games mini-game, while poor Dr Ravenholm met an untimely end in spectacular fashion.
The evening ended on a high note as we raided kingironblood, sending everyone across to continue the adventure with another fantastic creator. Despite intentionally avoiding the main quest, the stream was packed with memorable detours, hard-fought victories, plenty of laughter, and another reminder that in Far Harbor, the journey is almost always more memorable than the destination.

🌅 Until Next Time
Far Harbor may have given us a brief respite from the main story, but the island is far from finished with us. There are still unanswered questions hidden beneath the fog, fresh quests waiting to be tackled, and more than enough monsters eager to remind us why this place has earned its reputation.
Until next time, stay safe out there, keep your power armour patched up, and remember—if the travel brochure says “peaceful coastal retreat,” it’s probably lying.
