DrainSim | Ep. 3 – That’s a Beauty of a Blockage down at the Construction Site
Our journey through DrainSim reaches its biggest challenge yet, and fittingly, it all comes down to one final job. After steadily improving our techniques throughout the series, it’s time to put everything we’ve learned to the test against the infamous Construction Site—a level with a reputation for frustrating even experienced players.
Before diving headfirst into the mud and mayhem, we warm up with an impressive run through Downtown Station, shaving even more time off the clock before tackling the game’s toughest map. What follows is an evening packed with clever engineering, stubborn floods, plenty of laughs with chat, and one very satisfying new personal best that proves persistence really does pay off.
🌊 About the Game
DrainSim puts you in charge of restoring order to a city overwhelmed by flooding. Armed with everything from simple rakes to powerful submersible pumps, you’ll redirect water, uncover blocked drains, build barriers, and slowly reclaim streets one drainage system at a time.
While its premise sounds relaxing, the deeper levels become surprisingly strategic. Every decision matters, every leak threatens your progress, and every successful breakthrough feels genuinely rewarding as water finally begins flowing where it’s supposed to.
🚧 Where We Are in the Journey
Episode three brings us to the final available level currently in DrainSim: the Construction Site.
After steadily improving completion times across every previous map, this episode is all about putting that experience into practice. Before taking on the main challenge, we revisit Downtown Station for one last warm-up, beating my previous best with a new record of 14 minutes and 41 seconds before heading into the construction site determined to finish the series on a high note.
With no more levels currently available, this also marks the end of our DrainSim adventure—for now. Next week we’ll be swapping flooded streets for magical forests as we begin Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon on Nintendo Switch.
⚠️ What Happens in This Episode
The evening begins with a quick return to Downtown Station, serving as both a warm-up and a chance to see whether all the experience gained throughout the series could shave a little more time off the clock. It certainly could, with a new personal best of 14:41 setting the perfect tone before moving on to the night’s main objective.
The Construction Site wastes no time reminding us why so many players consider it the toughest map in DrainSim. The first priority is controlling the incoming water, damming sections and carefully redirecting the flow before bringing in the pumps to empty the site’s three flooded pits. Even with a solid plan, the level constantly fights back as water finds tiny escape routes and every new solution reveals another problem waiting to be solved.
While the pumps work away, attention turns to reshaping the landscape itself. Fresh drainage channels help keep water moving towards the exits, while carefully raised barriers lift the ground enough to reach several of the deeper drains earlier than expected. It’s a simple adjustment that saves valuable time and keeps progress moving steadily forward.
The construction site has defeated plenty of players, but experience makes all the difference. My very first attempt took two and a half hours to complete. The second run dropped dramatically to one hour and six minutes, followed by fifty-six minutes on the third attempt. This stream continued that steady improvement with a fantastic new personal best of 53 minutes and 42 seconds, proving that practice, patience and a little experimentation really can transform an intimidating level into a satisfying challenge.
Throughout the stream, chat kept the atmosphere lively. The infamous cheese intro once again became an early talking point before conversations wandered through favourite songs, Minecraft projects, construction simulators and, naturally, the recurring beans-on-toast jokes. Viewers were quick to point out every fresh leak with perfectly timed comments about me causing even more flooding, making every setback feel like part of the entertainment rather than a frustration.
There were also some more personal moments as we talked about my chickens—Crumble, Pie and Coconut—and the ongoing care they needed following recent health concerns. The community, as always, was wonderfully supportive, reminding me once again why these livestreams are about far more than simply playing games.
As the evening came to a close, the Construction Site was finally conquered with another record-breaking run, bringing the current DrainSim content to a satisfying conclusion before we rounded off the night by raiding kingironblood and looking ahead to the next adventure.
