Waterpark Simulator | Ep. 2 – Wet Pumpkins and Other Horrors

We’re heading back into Waterpark Simulator, and with Halloween rapidly approaching, things are getting appropriately strange. Wet pumpkins, questionable attractions, potentially horrifying health and safety standards, and the ongoing challenge of running a waterpark without accidentally creating a new aquatic nightmare. What could possibly go wrong?

Tonight was actually a change from our originally scheduled Bayonetta Origins stream. I’d been unwell for most of the week, so I wanted something nice and easy that we could switch off whenever necessary. Waterpark Simulator seemed ideal, especially with its Halloween event giving us 500 pumpkins to collect and some new cosmetics to unlock.

🌊 About the Game

Waterpark Simulator puts us in charge of designing, building and managing our very own waterpark. We can create swimming pools, install slides and attractions, expand the grounds and hopefully keep our visitors happy enough to return.

Of course, running a waterpark involves more than building things. There are supplies to restock, pools to clean, equipment to maintain and customers who seem determined to get themselves into trouble. As the park grows, we unlock more facilities and gradually work towards creating our ideal summer destination.

🏖️ Where We Are in the Journey

This is our second streamed episode, although I’ve been playing on and off over the past month. Since our last visit, the park has gradually grown, with additional attractions, new facilities and a few unexpected developments.

Welcome back to the Boob Lagoon!

The park now stretches all the way to the beach after I accidentally purchased an expansion while trying to unlock something else. I’ve also been keeping everything arranged in a grid. There’s no point designing the final layout until we’ve unlocked everything, and the symmetry makes cleaning and maintenance much easier.

We’re still working our way through the research system, and this episode gave us an opportunity to make some proper progress while completing the Halloween event.

🎃 What Happens in This Episode

We started by taking a look around some of the changes I’d made since our last stream. Although I hadn’t been playing constantly, I’d spent a little time expanding the park, unlocking new facilities and generally seeing what else we could add.

Just inside the entrance, there’s now a giant archway displaying our new banner, proudly announcing “Get Your Tit’s Out!” Because obviously the Boob Lagoon needs a suitable welcome sign.

Further towards the beach, I’d fenced off our accidentally acquired expansion and installed a sign reading “Minefield”. It adds flavour and excitement, although Mr V quite reasonably questioned why anybody would willingly go near it. We also had an impressive Aztec-style pool that I’d unlocked while playing previously. I actually drained the water to have a better look at the design because I thought it might make quite a nice entrance area in its own right. By the end of the evening, we’d also installed some very large pools towards the back of the expanded grounds.

The main objective for the evening, though, was completing the Halloween event. We needed to collect 500 pumpkins scattered around the park to unlock all the seasonal cosmetics. We’d already collected around 100 before the stream, so there was still quite a bit of work ahead of us.

The Halloween visitors were certainly interesting, with some appearing to twist their heads around in rather strange ways. Meanwhile, we had the usual problems with customers getting themselves into trouble, pools mysteriously losing all their water and people somehow managing to produce enormous amounts of rubbish.

The vending machines constantly needed restocking, bins required emptying, and our jacuzzi customers insisted on having their temperatures and bubbles adjusted individually. Apparently, they cannot manage this themselves. Every time I thought I’d finished sorting one thing out, something else needed attention.

We also had a few interesting problems with the water slides. One of the larger slides doesn’t seem particularly good at keeping customers on it, and I’d previously noticed that some of them fall off onto the nearby path instead of reaching the bottom. I’m not entirely sure that’s how it’s supposed to work, but the visitors seem determined to keep using it anyway.

Things became more entertaining once I got the Twitch visitor integration working. I’d been having technical problems with OBS after a forced update, and in all the confusion I’d completely forgotten to reconnect the visitor system.

Once that was sorted, everyone could use !visit to appear inside the park, which meant Gary, JD, Mr V, Mr Smith and the other regulars were wandering around among the customers. I did manage to forget to open the park on one occasion, so everybody had to try joining again.

Naturally, the community immediately started causing trouble. JD continued the familiar #blameGary tradition, Mr Smith suggested we shouldn’t allow Gary into the park, and several people discovered that their in-game characters weren’t particularly good swimmers.

One of our missions involved unlocking a taser and using it on ten troublesome guests. Initially, I couldn’t work out where the taser was hidden in the research system, but Mr Smith pointed me towards the maintenance category.

After collecting enough research points, we finally unlocked it, and before long I was chasing visitors around the grounds. Mr V became a particularly interesting target, especially after I decided to paint him red so I could identify him more easily. He subsequently complained about being assaulted with a paint roller, which was a fair description of what had happened.

The taser itself took a little getting used to. I managed to drop it, press the wrong button and even discover that it was possible to electrocute myself. Meanwhile, Mr Smith was actively requesting to be tased, and Gary seemed particularly keen to avoid getting caught.

Between all that, we still had customers drowning in the pools and needing assistance. I do sometimes wonder why so many people come to a swimming pool when they apparently cannot swim.

We also made some decent progress through the normal park objectives. We researched posters, purchased them from the shop and placed them around town, while another mission required customers to buy items from our vending machines.

There was plenty of cleaning involved as well. I’d made a macro to speed up scrubbing the pools, which saved repeatedly pressing the same button, although it didn’t always behave quite as expected. One mission required emptying bins, and I managed to clear several before realising they weren’t all counting towards the objective.

As we completed more tasks, we earned additional research points and unlocked new facilities. We installed diving boards, worked on the slide requirements and added more attractions and decorations, including saunas and places for customers to relax.

Eventually, we managed to advance the park to a four-star rating, increasing our visitor capacity to 75 people. That was a particularly nice achievement because it opened up more possibilities for expanding and improving everything.

There were a few diversions along the way, too. TicTacJim joined us, and I showed him some of the progress I’d been making on our stargazing and detection software, which is getting close to its version 1.0 release.

I’d recorded a timelapse earlier in the evening showing the moon and stars moving across the sky. You could also briefly see me taking the rubbish outside, which wasn’t exactly the intended subject of the recording.

Jim helped identify some of the things visible in the sky, including the Pleiades, and we discussed the possibility of spotting Orionid meteors. We also experimented with longer camera exposures and adjusting the room lighting to improve the images.

Unfortunately, our streaming software wasn’t being particularly cooperative. The OBS update had broken an important part of the jukebox system, something we discovered when JD requested “Worf Gets Denied”. I tried investigating the problem and requesting another song, but it wasn’t something I could easily fix during the stream.

Chat was keeping itself entertained regardless. JD and Gary completed Pokémon-hunting contracts, we had another round of the community Hunger Games, and Mr V managed to win, much to Jim’s suspicion. We also spent some time talking about American Truck Simulator, upcoming games and what film we should choose for Halloween movie night.

We received a lovely raid from KingIronBlood as well, bringing more people into the stream. That led to a conversation about Dave the Diver, including the discovery that it has chickens, which certainly made the game sound more interesting to me.

Meanwhile, back in the Boob Lagoon, the Halloween pumpkin collection was going rather well.

We passed the 300-pumpkin milestone and gradually worked our way towards the full 500. With so many other things happening around the park, it was quite useful to have something we could keep collecting while doing the normal maintenance and cleaning.

Eventually, we managed to collect all 500 Halloween pumpkins, completing the event and unlocking everything available in the seasonal cosmetics.

Unfortunately, there’s a slight catch. Although we unlocked the new Halloween slide, we still need to progress through some of the normal park research before we can actually install it. It was also rather expensive, so between the cost and the remaining requirements, we couldn’t take a proper look at it during this episode.

That’s something I’ll work towards between streams because I’m curious to see what the new attraction looks like once it’s installed.

I also experimented with leaving our staff to manage the park while I was occupied elsewhere. In theory, this should make it possible to leave the game running while I’m working on other things, allowing the park to earn money and continue operating.

In practice, I’m not entirely convinced the staff are doing their jobs. When I checked back, there was damaged equipment, rubbish everywhere and various things that clearly hadn’t been maintained properly.

The other problem is that now we’ve completed the Halloween event, the seasonal collectibles are still appearing all over the grounds. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish actual rubbish from Halloween decorations, especially when there are pumpkins and other event items scattered around everything.

Hopefully, once Halloween is over, the event items will disappear and the park will start looking slightly more presentable again.

For now, I’m going to keep everything arranged in its grid layout. It might not be the final design, but it makes running around the grounds, emptying bins, cleaning pools and completing the maintenance cycles much easier. We also get additional XP from doing all that work at the end of each day, so it’s worth keeping things organised.

I’m particularly interested in expanding further towards the surrounding areas. When we first started playing, we jumped over the park boundaries to explore and collect extra XP by cleaning up rubbish outside our territory. During that exploration, we noticed an old derelict bandstand.

I’d really like to know whether that eventually becomes something we can renovate or use, or whether it’s simply part of the scenery. Once we can expand into that area, we’ll hopefully find out.

By the time we finished, we’d completed the Halloween event, reached four stars, unlocked several new facilities and made some decent progress towards developing the park further. There was still plenty to clean up and several attractions we couldn’t quite access yet, but we’d achieved what we originally set out to do.

We finished the evening by thanking everyone who’d joined us and heading over on a raid to DashDucks.

I’ll continue working on the Boob Lagoon between streams, collecting XP, expanding the grounds and seeing what else we can unlock. We’ll return to Waterpark Simulator again soon, hopefully with some more attractions available and slightly less Halloween rubbish covering the entire place.

🎃 Five Hundred Pumpkins Later…

That’s where we’re leaving Waterpark Simulator for now. We’ve completed the Halloween event, reached four stars and expanded the Boob Lagoon considerably. Unfortunately, the new Halloween slide remains out of reach until we’ve unlocked more of the park.

I’ll continue working on things between streams, earning XP, expanding the grounds and hopefully investigating that mysterious derelict bandstand we spotted beyond the original park boundaries.

Thanks again to KingIronBlood for the raid, and to everyone who joined us throughout the evening. We finished by heading over to DashDucks to continue the fun.

Hopefully, by our next visit, the Halloween decorations will have stopped accumulating everywhere. Although knowing our customers, I’m sure we’ll still have plenty of cleaning to do.

Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you again soon!
