Sniper Elite III | Ep. 2 – Gaberoun
The North African desert is a dangerous place at the best of times, but in Sniper Elite III every dune, ruined wall, and distant ridge can become either the perfect sniper nest or the place where everything goes spectacularly wrong. Episode 2 finally takes us beyond the introductory mission and into the real campaign, where stealth, patience, and precision matter more than ever.
Of course, this is also a Dr Ravenholm stream, which means no operation survives contact with the enemy—or with chat. Between impossible deaths, low-ammo panic, plum-shot celebrations, and community chaos, what started as a carefully planned infiltration quickly became another unforgettable night in the desert.
🎯 About the Game
Sniper Elite III is a tactical third-person shooter set during World War II in North Africa. Combining stealth gameplay, open-ended mission design, and the series’ famous long-range ballistics, every encounter becomes a choice between patience and action.
Whether you’re silently eliminating targets from hundreds of metres away or scrambling to survive after an alarm goes off, the game constantly rewards careful planning while punishing mistakes. Add in the infamous X-ray kill cam and you’ve got a game built for memorable moments.
🧭 Where We Are in the Journey
This episode marks the true beginning of the campaign. While last week’s stream largely acted as a tutorial and introduction to the mechanics, Episode 2 throws us properly into the mission at Gaberoun.
With the training wheels off, the challenge now is surviving the desert, gathering intelligence, and pushing deeper into enemy territory while dealing with increasingly dangerous situations. The campaign is only just beginning, but the stakes are already rising.
⚠️ What Happens in This Episode
The mission begins with a cautious approach into the oasis as we start working our way around the map, scouting patrols and looking for opportunities to thin enemy numbers without drawing too much attention. Almost immediately, one of the stream’s favourite traditions makes its triumphant return: the legendary plum shot.
The hunt was on, and before the night was over we managed to rack up four successful plum shots. Every perfectly placed round brought celebrations from chat, while near misses and questionable hit detection sparked plenty of debate about whether the game was conspiring against us. As always, the plum counter became just as important as the mission objectives.
Despite the careful approach, things rarely stayed under control for long. A constant shortage of ammunition hung over the entire operation, forcing every shot to count. Somehow, against the odds, enemy positions kept falling one after another as we slowly pushed deeper into the map.
Unfortunately, the desert had other plans.
At one particular point in the mission we found ourselves trapped in what can only be described as a Deathloop. We cleared the area, pushed forward, and were eliminated. We repeated the exact same section, reached the same point, and somehow got Deathlooped all over again. It became one of those moments where frustration and comedy blend together until the only option is to laugh and keep going.
Then came perhaps the most painful death of the night. Victory was finally within reach when a tiny two-metre fall somehow resulted in another Deathloop courtesy of fall damage. Back to the beginning we went, forced to repeat the section all over again before eventually discovering that manual checkpoints could be created at any time. Naturally, this revelation led directly to #BlameFrodo, since reminding us to save is apparently part of his job description.
As progress continued, stealth gradually gave way to chaos. Firefights erupted, alarms sounded, and tactical retreats became necessary as enemy groups converged on our position. Just when we thought the final stretch of the mission was secure, a swarm of enemies appeared seemingly from nowhere, forcing us to fall back and carefully eliminate the threat before advancing once again.
After all the setbacks, all the repeated deaths, and all the ammunition warnings, the mission finally came to a satisfying conclusion with one last well-placed land mine.
With the desert operation complete, the stream shifted gears into some Marbles On Stream racing. What followed was exactly the kind of madness you’d expect. Mr Smith apparently decided originality was overrated and turned up with a suspiciously familiar cheese-themed marble skin. Then, as if things weren’t already questionable enough, he somehow glitched his way to victory and claimed the entire Grand Prix. Totally legitimate, we’re sure.
Throughout the evening chat kept the energy high with discussions ranging from Stargate and Dune to tattoos, butterscotch cravings, community milestones, and the ever-growing collection of Deathloop moments. The stream wrapped up with a raid over to Ashens, bringing another entertaining night to a close.
