Sniper Elite III | Ep. 4 – Fort Rifugio

The desert campaign continues with stealth, precision, and carefully planned shots. Hopefully carefully planned, anyway.

Fort Rifugio looms over the North African coastline like an immovable fortress, bristling with soldiers, machine guns, and more than a few surprises waiting in the shadows. This week, Dr Ravenholm returns to Sniper Elite III for another round of what the community affectionately calls “Plum Hunting,” and against all expectations, things actually go… surprisingly well.

Well, mostly.

An early mistake turns into an accidental masterstroke, enemy soldiers seem determined to walk directly into danger, and somewhere along the way we discover that Italian machine gunners apparently possess supernatural eyesight. Add in malfunctioning AI assistants, marble racing controversy, and Frodo’s ongoing struggle to remember the save reminder, and you’ve got another wonderfully chaotic evening in the desert.

🎯 About the Game

Sniper Elite III is a tactical third-person shooter set in the deserts of World War II North Africa. Combining stealth, player choice, and the series’ iconic long-range ballistics, the game drops players into huge open levels where careful planning can mean the difference between a perfect infiltration and absolute chaos.

Every encounter offers multiple approaches. You can sneak through enemy lines unseen, set traps, scout from afar, or go loud when things inevitably stop going to plan. And, of course, there’s the series’ legendary X-Ray kill cam, rewarding those perfectly placed shots with gloriously dramatic results.

🏰 Where We Are in the Journey

Episode 4 sees the campaign moving deeper into enemy territory as we take on Fort Rifugio, a heavily defended coastal fortress that demands patience, precision, and perhaps a little luck.

After several tense missions already behind us, Karl Fairburne is becoming increasingly familiar with the dangers of North Africa. But Fort Rifugio presents its own challenges, with fortified positions, machine gun nests, and enough enemy patrols to keep even the most experienced sniper on edge.

For viewers jumping into the series here, this is a fantastic episode that perfectly captures the balance of stealth, chaos, and comedy that has become a hallmark of Dr Ravenholm’s streams.

⚠️ What Happens in This Episode

The evening began quietly enough as Dr Ravenholm settled into the mission and welcomed regulars into chat. Conversation drifted briefly to real-world adventures involving rebellious chickens, escape attempts, and a hen named Coconut recovering from an injury before attention shifted back to the battlefield.

The plan was simple: infiltrate Fort Rifugio under cover of darkness and dismantle the enemy defences one careful shot at a time.

Naturally, the plan immediately went wrong.

An accidental shot alerted nearby guards far earlier than intended, but instead of swarming the fortress or flanking our position, the enemy made the baffling decision to repeatedly march straight towards the starting area and directly into Karl’s sights. It was almost too convenient. One after another they appeared, only to become the latest victims of another well-placed round.

The only lingering mystery was how one machine gunner perched halfway up a hill managed to land shots with unnerving accuracy from what felt like another postcode entirely.

As the assault continued, the stream settled into its familiar rhythm of sneaking, sniping, panicking, and somehow recovering. A few enemies stubbornly refused to die, shots occasionally seemed to disappear into invisible walls, and more than once cries of #Deathloop echoed through chat as the game threatened to undo progress.

Thankfully, Frodo eventually remembered his sacred duty and reminded Dr Ravenholm to save, usually moments before disaster struck.

Alongside the firefights, conversation wandered into Dune: Awakening, with viewers getting an enthusiastic tour of ongoing base renovations. Garage expansions, vehicle bays, landing pads, and plans for a massive hangar sparked plenty of discussion while the desert war raged on in the background.

And then there was AIDA.

What began as a harmless AI assistant suddenly developed a fondness for telling the exact same bizarre tale over and over again — haunted potatoes, mysterious mushrooms, yodelling contests, the Harmonica of Doom, and Dr Ravenholm somehow contracting dysentery. The increasingly frequent interruptions quickly became a running joke, with chat insisting there had to be a glitch in the matrix.

Despite the distractions, Fort Rifugio eventually fell.

Victory was ours.

But the chaos wasn’t over yet.

After completing the mission, the stream switched gears for a few rounds of Marbles On Stream, where Mr V Grand Prix once again found victory cruelly snatched away as AIDA stormed to first place. The cries of #Rigged rang out to thunderous applause.

To round off the evening, the community set sail on one final adventure, raiding into Ashens and bringing the night’s energy with them.
