Sniper Elite III | Ep. 5 – Siwa Oasis

The North African campaign continues, and Siwa Oasis proves that even the most carefully planned infiltration can descend into absolute chaos. Between precision sniping, explosive improvisation, and more than a few unexpected reloads, this mission became one of those streams where every victory felt hard-earned and every mistake somehow managed to make the next attempt even more entertaining.

What started as a stealthy operation soon turned into an evening of tense decision-making, spectacular long-range shots, and the kind of death loops that have become an unofficial feature of the playthrough. Throw in plenty of laughs from chat, a perfectly placed plum shot, and a dramatic escape with barely enough ammunition to finish the job, and Siwa Oasis delivered another unforgettable chapter in our Sniper Elite III adventure.

🌍 About the Game

Sniper Elite III combines tactical stealth, open-ended mission design, and incredibly satisfying long-range sniping across the deserts of North Africa during World War II. Every encounter offers multiple approaches, rewarding patience, careful positioning, and precision marksmanship while punishing careless mistakes.

The game’s expansive maps encourage exploration just as much as combat, with hidden routes, optional objectives, and opportunities to tackle missions however you choose. Whether you’re patiently lining up a shot from hundreds of metres away or improvising when everything goes wrong, every mission creates its own memorable story.

🧭 Where We Are in the Journey

Our hunt for the truth behind Project Za continues as we push deeper into enemy territory. Having survived the earlier operations, we now arrive at the Siwa Oasis, where gathering intelligence becomes just as important as eliminating enemy forces.

Rather than simply clearing another battlefield, this mission demands patience and restraint. One wrong move could derail the entire operation, making this one of the more tactical chapters of the campaign before the story leads us towards an even more heavily defended mountain headquarters.

⚠️ What Happens in This Episode

The evening began with a cautious approach around the western edge of the oasis, quietly slipping into the complex through a hidden cave rather than charging through the main entrance. After silently clearing the first section, we climbed into position overlooking the area, expecting another straightforward sniping challenge.

Instead, the mission immediately presented an awkward dilemma.

Three officers stood together, but only one carried the information we needed. Naturally, the first instinct was to solve the problem with a well-placed grenade, sending all three skyward in one spectacular explosion. Unfortunately, the game had other ideas, rewarding the impressive blast with an instant game over. That marked the beginning of what would become eight memorable death loops as every attempt to outsmart the mission seemed to introduce another creative way to fail.

Eventually, patience won out. We allowed the correct officer to complete the intelligence exchange before making his death look like an “accident.” Now, the game may have had a very specific definition of accidental, but I’d argue that unexpectedly travelling at 730 metres per second into one of my 6.5mm rounds definitely qualifies as an unfortunate workplace incident.

With the notebook secured and the objective complete, escaping should have been simple.

Of course, it wasn’t.

A tank blocked the route forward, happily patrolling its endless loop. Rather than wasting precious ammunition trying to brute-force the encounter, we planted a mine beneath its tracks, disabling it before carefully placing a few rounds into the fuel tank. One satisfying explosion later, the path finally opened… or so we thought.

The mission still had one last surprise waiting.

Enemy snipers remained ahead, and by now ammunition was almost completely exhausted. Long-range engagements were no longer an option, forcing a risky push through enemy positions. Along the way we stumbled across a conveniently abandoned launcher, quickly putting it to excellent use against one sniper before closing the distance to eliminate the remaining threat at point-blank range.

After everything the oasis had thrown at us, finally reaching the extraction felt thoroughly deserved.

The stream itself mirrored the chaos unfolding in-game. Chat kept the atmosphere lively throughout, celebrating every successful plum hunt while enthusiastically counting each death loop as another chapter in the evening’s growing collection of unfortunate reloads. Somehow we still managed one perfect plum shot during the mission, ensuring the community scoreboard remained satisfied despite all the setbacks.

Away from the battlefield, conversations wandered through the relentless summer heat, melting kitchens, malfunctioning taps, Stargate, Resident Evil, server maintenance headaches, and even plans for future garden livestreams. One of the evening’s most wholesome moments arrived when I showed everyone the newly installed chicken coop cameras, sparking an unexpected discussion about adding a dedicated hedgehog camera for our noisy nocturnal visitors.

Once the mission was finally complete, we swapped rifles for a quick round of Marbles on Stream. Despite the inevitable cries of #Rigged, victory belonged to me this time before we wrapped up the evening by raiding over to Ashens to continue the community fun.

🌅 Until Next Time

Siwa Oasis may finally be behind us, but the trail left by Project Za leads towards an even more dangerous destination. If this mission proved anything, it’s that even the best plans can unravel in spectacular fashion—and sometimes the only way through is one careful shot at a time.

Until the next stream, stay sharp, keep your rifle steady, and remember… every death loop is just another opportunity to line up the perfect shot.
