Dune: Awakening | Ep. 26 – The Landsraad Has Asked Me for Favour’s. Mistake

Politics on Arrakis? What could possibly go wrong? The answer is probably everything. Between the endless demands of the Landsraad, survival in one of the harshest environments imaginable, and the constant challenge of keeping a growing operation running, there is never a quiet day in the desert.

This episode turned into something a little different though. Before we headed out to deal with political errands and faction business, it was finally time to reveal the result of weeks of work. After more than 400 hours of gameplay, one of the most familiar landmarks of this playthrough has been completely transformed.

🏗️ About the Game

Dune: Awakening takes the brutal survival mechanics of Arrakis and combines them with large-scale exploration, crafting, base building, politics, and faction warfare.

Starting with almost nothing, players must battle the desert itself while building up resources, technology, vehicles, and influence. From avoiding sandworms to constructing massive industrial compounds and flying across the dunes in ornithopters, every step forward feels earned.

As the journey progresses, survival becomes something much bigger: a struggle for power within the Imperium itself.

🧭 Where We Are in the Journey

By Episode 26, we are firmly established in the late-game stages of our Arrakis adventure.

Hundreds of hours of progression have transformed our operations from a small survival outpost into a sprawling industrial network. This episode marks a major milestone because the legendary Cheese Land has officially been retired and replaced by something far more ambitious.

At the same time, the Landsraad continues calling in favours, giving us new missions to complete while we push toward even larger goals across the desert.

🏰 What Happens in This Episode

The night begins back on Arrakis with a surprise for everyone watching. Over the last two weeks, I had been quietly rebuilding our main base behind the scenes. After serving as home for over 400 hours of gameplay, Cheese Land is gone.

In its place stands Icarus Base, inspired by the famous Stargate location and designed to be both functional and impressive.

We started our tour from the Tea Balcony before moving through the Tea Room and into the War Room, complete with its enormous map table, personal workspace, and supply storage. From there we worked our way through the tower, visiting the upper Flappy Flappy landing pads before descending into the industrial heart of the complex.

The storage decks, fabrication facilities, ore-processing systems, cargo drop-off points, and power infrastructure all came together to create something far larger than the old base ever was. Massive wind turbine arrays sit beneath the structure while a dedicated tower houses the large spice generator. There are hangars for assault Flappy Flappies, guest landing areas, vehicle decks for ground transport, and even a dedicated carrier hangar designed to safely deploy harvesters directly onto Arrakis.

Naturally, no base tour would be complete without discussing questionable design decisions, hidden mistakes, suspiciously placed carpets, and the community’s ongoing investigations into where exactly the lube storage is located.

Once the walking tour was complete, we took a small Flappy Flap into the skies for a full aerial showcase. Seeing Icarus Base from above really highlighted the scale of the rebuild, especially when compared to the old Cheese Land layout. The transformation was enormous, and it was fantastic finally being able to share it with everyone.

With sightseeing complete, it was time to answer the Landsraad’s requests. Thanks to the UK heatwave making everyone feel like they were already living on Arrakis, we opted for a few easier missions around Hagga Basin rather than anything too demanding.

The missions took us across the northern region, investigating objectives, planting surveillance equipment, gathering mission targets, and dealing with hostile forces along the way. There were encounters with dangerous enemies, a memorable hunt involving hazardous cactus specimens, and plenty of the usual mix of confidence and chaos that tends to accompany our expeditions.

After completing the missions, Mr V needed supplies for a wind trap project. We returned to Icarus Base, gathered equipment, crafted filters, and delivered everything to his base. The only real obstacle turned out to be waiting for Mr V to wrestle with the trade menu long enough to actually accept the supplies.

The return journey became an adventure of its own as we took the scenic route past Gary’s mini base near the edge of the Sheol radiation zone before finally heading home.

Of course, Arrakis wouldn’t be Arrakis without a little drama. Back at Icarus Base we discovered Mr Smith attempting to be clever by setting off Thumpers near the new build, apparently hoping to create chaos around my freshly completed masterpiece. Fortunately, the base survived the encounter, although Mr Smith once again proved that content seems to find him even when nobody asks for it.

Throughout it all, chat remained lively with discussions about base building, resource gathering, wind traps, filters, Flappy Flappies, Hubert the sandworm, and the eternal #BlameGary conspiracy.

The evening ended back where it began: relaxing in the Tea Room, discussing future plans, surviving the heat, and preparing for whatever Arrakis throws at us next. We then wrapped up the night by raiding into OurChickenLife.

The sands are always shifting, and no two journeys across Arrakis are ever the same.

Sometimes we’re hunting resources in dangerous territory. Sometimes we’re building ridiculous engineering projects that somehow work. Other nights we’re answering political favours from the Landsraad while trying not to melt in real-world temperatures that rival the desert itself.

🌅 Until Next Time

Icarus Base is standing tall, the Landsraad have had their favours, and Arrakis remains as unpredictable as ever.

Until next time, keep your filters clean, keep an eye on the horizon, and remember—Hubert is definitely a friend.
