Dune: Awakening | Ep. 29 – The Cheese Must Flow. Everything Else Is Negotiable.

Back to Arrakis for another evening of survival, politics, exploration, and negotiations that almost certainly won’t go according to plan. This time the destination is the closing stretch of The Great Convention Part II, with the finish line finally beginning to appear on the horizon. Of course, on Arrakis, reaching the end of a quest is rarely as straightforward as it first seems.

What started as a determined push through Act 4 quickly became another unforgettable livestream filled with brutal arena fights, dangerous ruins, sarcastic commentary, unexpected singalongs, plenty of cheese jokes, and the brilliant community moments that always make these adventures feel like far more than simply playing a game.

🌵 About the Game

Dune: Awakening throws players into one of science fiction’s most iconic worlds, where survival is every bit as important as ambition. Beginning with little more than determination, you’ll battle the unforgiving deserts of Arrakis while crafting equipment, building your own base, exploring forgotten ruins, and uncovering the mystery surrounding the missing Fremen.

As your influence grows, survival evolves into something much larger. Political intrigue, dangerous expeditions, powerful enemies, and the struggle for control of the spice all become part of the journey, making every expedition feel like another chapter in an ever-expanding story.

🧭 Where We Are in the Journey

Episode 29 finds us deep into The Great Convention Part II during Act 4, with the goal of finally pushing this DLC toward its conclusion. After checking where we had left things last week, it looked like several arena encounters and fetch quests still stood between us and the finish line, although exactly how much of Fallen Light remained was still something of a mystery.

While this episode brings us significantly closer to wrapping up the DLC, there’s still uncertainty about what remains. Rather than stretching the series further, the final clean-up will happen off-stream as we prepare to take a short break from Arrakis before diving into the 2009 Xbox 360 action game WET next week.

⚔️ What Happens in This Episode

The evening begins with a quick check of the latest update before preparations start back at base. Missing crafting materials create a brief mystery, but once supplies are sorted and new equipment is ready, it’s time to head back into the dangerous ruins. Armed with an upgraded sword and fresh determination, the expedition sets off to tackle another section of the DLC.

Before long the familiar cycle of exploration and combat takes over. Radiation-filled ruins hide another objective, while enemies emerge from every direction to make sure nothing comes easily. Thankfully the newly upgraded sword immediately proves its worth, carving through lighter opponents with satisfying efficiency while shields, explosives, gadgets and careful positioning help deal with increasingly dangerous encounters.

As the journey continues, however, the DLC slips back into its familiar rhythm of fetch quests leading directly into another arena battle. It becomes a running joke throughout the stream, with increasingly sarcastic observations about quest design punctuating each new objective. Despite those frustrations, the combat itself continues to deliver some genuinely tense moments.

The arena fights become the highlight of the evening. Enemy mines litter the battlefield, relentless waves of attackers refuse to give any breathing room, and multiple bosses ensure every mistake carries real consequences. Stamina quickly becomes the true final boss, forcing careful movement while healing, turret placement and tactical retreats become just as important as dealing damage. Several encounters threaten to spiral out of control thanks to dangerously low health and the occasional mix-up with healing items, but persistence eventually wins every battle.

Even one of the evening’s biggest boss fights takes an unexpected turn when chat and stream erupt into a Christmas song singalong—exactly the sort of wonderfully chaotic moment that somehow feels perfectly at home during a Dr Ravenholm livestream.

Away from the fighting, the community keeps the atmosphere lively throughout the evening. Conversations drift effortlessly from the latest Dune update to base building, power generation, classic films, Terry Pratchett novels, The Hunt for Red October, Sam Neill, television favourites and just about everything in between. Community games add even more entertainment, with successful heists, Pokémon hunting, challenge fights and a Hunger Games event that ends with Dr Ravenholm being jokingly accused of bribing the judges after somehow emerging victorious.

Meanwhile, one joke refuses to die. The episode title, The Cheese Must Flow, becomes a running theme throughout the stream, with cheese references appearing at every opportunity and perfectly matching the wonderfully unpredictable energy of the night.

By the end of the session another major section of Act 4 has finally been conquered. New equipment has been collected, progress through the DLC has moved noticeably closer to completion, and after safely returning to base to organise loot and prepare for what’s next, it becomes clear that our time on Arrakis is drawing to a close. To finish the evening, the community continues its adventure by raiding into ArtsyCatsyBee, rounding off another fantastic night together.
