Dune: Awakening | Ep. 28 – Another Beautiful Day on the Galaxy’s Least Welcoming Planet

Back to Arrakis where the scenery is beautiful, the weather is hostile, and everything larger than a house wants to eat you.

Sometimes the greatest challenge isn’t the desert itself—it’s finding the determination to return to something that defeated you before. Episode 28 is all about unfinished business as we head back into one of the most frustrating pieces of content in Dune: Awakening with a single goal in mind: finally push through The Great Convention Part II.

What follows is a mixture of hard-fought victories, sarcastic commentary about questionable mission design, plenty of laughs with chat, and proof that a little preparation can completely change the outcome of a battle that once seemed impossible.

🌵 About the Game

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival and crafting adventure set on the deadly world of Arrakis. From battling the relentless environment and avoiding colossal sandworms to building bases, upgrading equipment, exploring dangerous regions and uncovering the mystery of the missing Fremen, every journey across the sands feels like a fight for survival.

Whether you’re exploring solo or alongside other players, every expedition demands careful planning because Arrakis never forgives mistakes for long.

⚔️ Where We Are in the Journey

This episode takes us back into The Great Convention Part II (Act 4)—a DLC that previously brought the series to a halt months ago.

The arena encounters had repeatedly trapped us in frustrating death loops, eventually convincing me to step away from the DLC altogether. Now, after committing to completing the entire adventure as a solo playthrough, it’s time to return stronger, better equipped, and ready to finally clear the content that refused to let us pass.

🔥 What Happens in This Episode

The evening begins with a complete rethink of the character build. Skills that no longer served a purpose in the late game were removed during a full respec, while upgraded weapons, stronger equipment and a healthy stockpile of medical supplies gave us far more confidence than during our previous attempt.

That confidence was immediately put to the test as we stepped back into the arena against Brute the Scrapper—the very encounter that had once trapped us in an endless cycle of defeats. There were plenty of jokes about inevitable “death loops,” but this time careful positioning, shield management, defensive turrets and a much stronger build completely changed the outcome. Instead of another frustrating defeat, the fight became one of the night’s biggest victories.

With that hurdle finally behind us, the DLC settled into the familiar pattern that has made it such a controversial experience. Arena battle followed fetch quest, which led into another arena battle before sending us back out once again. It was impossible not to comment on how repetitive the structure feels, but despite the criticism, every completed objective pushed the story forward a little further than we’d ever managed before.

Between the combat encounters, the journey took us into hazardous radiation zones where missing couriers needed tracking down, radiation cores had to be recovered and survival became just as important as winning the next fight. Along the way we talked through base power management, Landsraad progression, generators, skill choices and other late-game strategies that viewers could use in their own adventures across Arrakis.

The arena battles themselves kept raising the stakes. Waves of increasingly dangerous gladiators and enemies poured into the battlefield, yet disciplined combat consistently won the day. Rather than relying on brute force, every encounter became an exercise in patience, positioning and preparation, all while the over-the-top arena announcer enthusiastically treated every fight as though the galaxy itself was watching.

As always, chat became part of the adventure. Viewers swapped stories about losing vehicles to quicksand, compared base designs, discussed factions, blueprints and progression, while conversations wandered into everything from Phasmophobia updates to retro gaming and favourite Game Boy titles. Running jokes never stayed quiet for long either, with “#BlameGary” returning alongside plenty of teasing about welding, Happy Cat Lady’s Pokémon adventures, the ever-growing “Jelly Queen” nickname and constant laughs whenever another supposed death loop failed to materialise.

By the time the stream came to a close, we had made far more progress than expected. Several arena champions had fallen, the DLC had finally begun to move again, and although we originally hoped to finish it, there’s still work ahead. Next week’s stream begins with yet another fetch quest before tackling the remaining four arena battles and two final fetch quests standing between us and finally putting this chapter behind us.

To round off the evening, we raided over to DashDucks, sharing the community spirit with another creator before leaving Arrakis for the night.

🌅 Until Next Time

The desert may have delayed us, but it didn’t stop us. We’ve finally broken through the wall that held this DLC back for months, and with the finish line now in sight, there’s only one thing left to do.

Until next time… stay safe, watch for the sandworms, and I’ll see you out on Arrakis.
